Friberg's Western Prints Winter at Valley Forge
A GENTLEMEN'S FOURSOME
MIND IF I JOIN YOU GENTLEMEN? 1989 Release. The first issue in Mr. Friberg's legendary saloon series. The artist relentlessly researched the splendidly carved back-bars, antique oil lamp fixtures, unusual walking canes, period clothing, wallpaper, bottles, and carved picture frames to give these three paintings vigorous authenticity. You can almost hear the macho sounds you would hear if you entered that frontier saloon.
WINNERS AND LOSERS 1993 Release. Commissioned in 1977 by Steven A. Wynn, the owner of the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, this painting was created to depict an old-time western saloon as it might have looked in earlier days. Delighted with the work, Wynn displayed it at the casino for some time, but then decided not to risk damage from the humidity, variable temperatures, and swarms of admiring people in the casino, and retired the painting to his own home.
HER HERO 1990 Release. From first-hand observations of Indian camp life, Friberg here has recorded many rich authentic details of the teepees - stakes, lacing, pins, medicine bundles, painted designs, and the orderly interlocking of lodge poles over the smoke holes. Also stretched hides and meat drying racks, all giving a complete picture of a people at home with nature. The small girl in the teepee doorway looks with admiration upon the macho brave on his strong horse.
PARLEY IN THE FOREST 1991 Release. This painting does not illustrate a particular event, but rather a parley as it might have occurred countless times. It is a meeting of foes in battle, but who respect each other as honorable fighting men. Notable are the strong splendid horses.
THE PRAYER AT VALLEY FORGE Originally painted in 1976 to honor our country's bi-centennial year, "The Prayer at Valley Forge" in the last 20 years has become increasingly cherished and recognized as a supreme 20th century masterpiece of patriotic American art. In it we feel the cold, the suffering, and the weight of the burden falling on the tall and lonely man, driving him to his knees there in the bitter snows of Valley Forge. Secondary market on original paper, now available as a canvasSpecial "Full
Size" Edition
WHEN THE LAND WAS HIS 1986 Release. Arnold Friberg has always felt a deep respect for Native American cultures both in the U.S. and in Canada. After all of his work with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada feels like his second home. It has been a great honor to him that Native Americans visiting his studio have often commented that his paintings have "strong medicine." He views When the Land Was His as a companion to his equestrian portrait of Prince Charles, "Each represents royalty in his own domain." Not an action picture, this is a tribute to the beauty and ingenuity of Indian craftsmanship, achieved with simple, available native materials.
TALES OF THE FORCE 1988 Release. This image introduced Arnold Friberg's art to Canadians. It quickly became a sold out edition, and is now a highly sought after secondary market print. Looking into the rugged face of the storyteller, you feel the spirit that has made the RCMP famous throughout the world and an inspiration to all boys. (A personal note: Many people don't know that the young boy in the ski sweater is Arnold Friberg's son, Frank.)
THE MODEL BUILDER 1993 Release. Another instant favorite of collectors not only in Canada, but everywhere, this painting takes us into an old frontiersman's cabin, reminiscing with his good friend in scarlet serge about past days of his adventures. We feel we're almost at the North Pole, with Saint Nick just around the corner!
